HAAS® Alarm 224 — X TRANSITION FAULT

What it means

The control didn't see the expected sequence of encoder pulses on X — usually means the drive thinks the motor is moving differently to what the encoder is reporting.

Common causes

  • Encoder fault or noise on the feedback line
  • Cable damage or loose connector
  • Mechanical slip (rare — coupling between motor and ballscrew loose)

What to check first

  • Inspect X cable and connectors
  • Check that the X motor coupling is tight — feel for any backlash by hand
  • If clean, this is service — diagnosis with a scope on the encoder lines

Prevention

Regular preventative maintenance — clean cabinet, working lube, sensible cutting parameters, and a habit of checking offsets before running — prevents most alarms before they happen.
