HAAS® Alarm 104 — Y SERVO ERROR TOO LARGE

What it means

Same fault as 103, but on the Y axis. The Y motor isn't tracking position closely enough.

Common causes

  • Mechanical binding on Y (very common with chip packing on a vertical machine)
  • Y axis ballscrew, bearing or coupling damage
  • Encoder cable issue
  • Crash damage that hasn't fully shown itself

What to check first

  • Power off and try Y by hand for tight spots
  • Look for chip build-up under the table or behind way covers
  • Check for any visible misalignment from a previous knock

Prevention

Following errors are often a slow-creeping problem before they become an alarm. Keep an eye on the axis load meters during normal production — if one axis is consistently working harder than it used to, get it looked at before it trips. Way cover seal replacement and ballscrew lubrication are the cheapest insurance you can buy.
