HAAS® Alarm 198 — SPINDLE STALLED

What it means

The spindle was commanded to rotate but didn't get up to the requested RPM, or it stopped during a cut.

Common causes

  • Tool jammed in material — too much engagement or a broken cutter
  • Drive belt broken or slipping
  • Vector drive output fault
  • Mechanical seizure (rare — bad bearings)

What to check first

  • Stop the cycle — back the tool out by hand if needed
  • Try to rotate the spindle by hand (power off) — it should turn freely
  • Check for visible damage; persistent fault is a service call

Prevention

Most spindle alarms have one of two root causes: heat or load. A clean cabinet with working fans, sensible cutting parameters, and a regular spindle warm-up cycle (especially on cold mornings) prevents the majority of spindle issues. If your spindle load gradually creeps up across a long production run, replace the cutter sooner rather than later.
