HAAS® Alarm 123 — SPINDLE DRIVE FAULT

What it means

The spindle drive (vector drive) has reported its own internal fault and shut down. The drive is the big amplifier that powers the spindle motor.

Common causes

  • Vector drive overtemperature (cabinet hot, fans dirty)
  • Drive overcurrent — motor pulled too much
  • Capacitor wear inside the drive (older machines)
  • Bad motor — short or insulation failure

What to check first

  • Note the LED status on the vector drive itself
  • Check cabinet temperature and fan operation
  • This is a service call — vector drives are not user-serviceable

Prevention

Most spindle alarms have one of two root causes: heat or load. A clean cabinet with working fans, sensible cutting parameters, and a regular spindle warm-up cycle (especially on cold mornings) prevents the majority of spindle issues. If your spindle load gradually creeps up across a long production run, replace the cutter sooner rather than later.
