HAAS® Alarm 144 — SPINDLE OVERLOAD

What it means

The spindle has been pulling too much current for too long. The drive has tripped to protect the motor.

Common causes

  • Cut too aggressive — too much engagement, feed or depth
  • Tool worn or broken — pushing instead of cutting
  • Material harder than expected
  • Spindle bearings dragging (advanced wear)

What to check first

  • Stop, retract, and inspect the cutter
  • Reduce DOC, feed, or step-over
  • Watch the spindle load meter — if it climbs slowly part-by-part, your tool is wearing out

Prevention

Most spindle alarms have one of two root causes: heat or load. A clean cabinet with working fans, sensible cutting parameters, and a regular spindle warm-up cycle (especially on cold mornings) prevents the majority of spindle issues. If your spindle load gradually creeps up across a long production run, replace the cutter sooner rather than later.
