HAAS® Alarm 176 — TOOL UNCLAMP FAULT

What it means
The drawbar/tool clamp didn't release (or didn't confirm release) when commanded during a tool change. The control couldn't be sure the tool is actually loose.
Common causes
- Air pressure low — most drawbars are pneumatically actuated
- Drawbar release switch faulty
- Sticking drawbar (debris inside the spindle taper)
- Worn Belleville washer stack
What to check first
- Check air pressure first
- If air is fine, try a manual tool release and listen for the actuator working
- Persistent fault — service call to inspect the drawbar
Prevention
Most spindle alarms have one of two root causes: heat or load. A clean cabinet with working fans, sensible cutting parameters, and a regular spindle warm-up cycle (especially on cold mornings) prevents the majority of spindle issues. If your spindle load gradually creeps up across a long production run, replace the cutter sooner rather than later.
