What it means
Y axis would have moved past its positive software limit. The control stopped the move before the axis could hit its hardware end-stop.
Common causes
- Wrong work offset Y value
- Probing routine reached too far away from operator
- Subprogram referenced wrong fixture origin
What to check first
- Confirm Y value in the active work offset
- Look at the failing program line — what Y was commanded?
- Jog Y back toward the operator
Prevention
Most overtravel alarms are programming or setup issues, not machine faults. Build a habit of always confirming your tool length offsets and active work offset before pressing cycle start — especially after a tool change or a fixture swap. On 5-axis machines, simulate moves before running them; trunnion clearances are easy to misjudge.
